As
a new Earth Angel volunteer I extremely
enjoy my interaction with the children.
When I started this project, I thought I
would be going out into the community to
help others in their time of need. In
reality, I truly believe I have been the
benefactor. These children are the true
"Earth Angels"! They are the
ones that give us the glimmer of hope of
what life is really about.
You sit and talk to the children in
their moment of what we as adults would
consider true despair and as you look
into their eyes you see life in the
purest form. You can see dreams and
desires that may never be fulfilled.
Yet, there is an ever-present,
overwhelming feeling of hope. A hope
that maybe I have learned to take for
granted and dismissed in everyday life's
trials and tribulations. So when these
little angels look up to me to say thank
you, I should be the one on bended knee
thanking them…

I love walking in to the room to find smiles
in everyone's faces. The kids that I play with
are so funny. I am glad that I decided to be
part of Earth Angels. This program is
wonderful for the kids and
for me, because I get to play too.

Another Letter from a Board Member:
After many years being involved with earth angels and resisting being with the children and adults with life threatening illnesses because of my own personal experiences with such I finally decided to voluteer with the visits
to patients. There is something wonderful and fulfilling about being able to help another person through a difficult time in their lives.
As a voluteer for one year it was a lovely experience to watch, participate and enjoy the 2004 christmas party. It was held at the american cancer society's winn dixie hope lodge. The patients young and old, their family members and friends were approximately thirty five to forty strong. The group were given twelve inch tall christmas trees to decorate with many different kinds of miniture ornaments and tinsel to choose from. They ended with their own personal christmas tree to take back to their rooms.
They made christmas cards and had a great visit from santa and mrs claus. Their faces lit up with surprise, especially the children, when santa gave out gifts for all and had their pictures taken with santa and the missus. We ate and laughed and felt the joyous feeling of the season.
My most poignant moment came when a patient arrived late for the party and I took her to set her up with a tree to decorate and placed all the trimmings near so she could trim her own personal tree. She told me about the beautiful tree she had decorated and left at home before coming for her treatments. I sat with her and watched as she meticulously decorated the miniature tree and as she was placing the tinsel to finish it off she turned to me and said "thank you for having this party for us and giving me this tree. It will help me not miss the one at home so much."

It's a Wonderful Life!
On December 18th, 2004 the members of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) had an early Christmas present! We were given the opportunity to accompany Santa Claus and the Earth Angels to Winn Dixie Hope Lodge.
There is nothing in the world like the feeling you get from being involved with helping people in need. The club members who are students from Miami Springs Senior High had so much fun helping the kids decorate mini Christmas trees, make holiday cards and give out gifts from Santa Claus!
FCCLA also donated thousands of aluminum "pop tops" and health and beauty items to the Hope Lodge and Ronald McDonald House. When the club members were asked if they wanted to accompany Earth Angels again there was a chorus of "YEAH - when and where?"
Some comments that FCCLA members had to share about their experience with Earth Angels:
